A Kingdom Rooted in Time

One of the oldest continuous monarchies in West Africa

The Royal Kissi Kingdom is one of the oldest continuous monarchies in West Africa, with roots stretching back millennia. The Kissi people — known historically by the spellings Gizzi, Kisi, and Kissi, and revered throughout the region as “the Peacemakers” — are among the earliest inhabitants of what is now Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, with oral traditions tracing their presence to as early as 450 B.C.

From the fertile banks of the Upper Niger to the lush forests of the Makona River Basin, the Kissi have built a civilization defined by resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to community. In the traditions of the region, every Kissi man is honored as “Uncle” and every Kissi woman as “Auntie” — sacred titles bestowed by neighboring peoples in recognition of the Kissi's extraordinary sacrifices for peace and reconciliation.

The Kingdom produced one of the most remarkable currencies in human history — the Kissi Penny, known as “the money with a soul” — and gave the world masterful ironwork, handwoven textiles, and a rich tradition of music, art, and spiritual wisdom.

“The Kissi people are not merely survivors of history — they are its architects, its peacemakers, and its enduring conscience.”

The Homeland

Liberia

The Love of Liberty Brought Us Here

Liberia — “the Land of the Free” — stands as a beacon of self-determination and dignity on the West African coast. Founded in 1847 as the first independent republic in Africa, Mother Liberia has long been a symbol of the resilience, courage, and unshakeable faith of her people.

The Kissi people, among the oldest indigenous groups in Liberia, have been woven into the very fabric of this great nation since time immemorial. The dense forests of Lofa County, the sacred waters of the Makona and Mano rivers, and the rolling green hills of Foya and Vahun — these are the ancestral lands of the Kissi, the “Children of the Forest,” the “Keepers of the Iron.”

“All hail, Liberia, hail! This glorious land of liberty shall long be ours.”

A New Chapter

Today, under the regency of Her Royal Highness, the Royal House of Kissi is entering a new chapter: one of sovereign restoration, global humanitarian engagement, and economic empowerment through the Kissi Kingdom Sovereign Wealth Fund.

The Kissi people — called “the Peacemakers,” the “Uncles and Aunties of West Africa,” and the “Keepers of the Iron” — have always placed community, integrity, and service above all else. That tradition continues today as the Kingdom works to build roads, schools, clinics, and lasting institutions across the Kissi homeland.
